Our Partners

Programme Initiators & Scientific Partners:

At the origin of Forest Commons is Eric Verrecchia (Professor of Biogeochemistry at the University of Lausanne) who first discovered that oxalogenous trees can store carbon in the soil, in the form of calcium rock, for tens of thousands of years and whose laboratory was involved in the CO2SolStock program, coordinated by the Greenloop firm that investigated the natural pathways of CO2 bio-sequestration.

The founders of Forest Commons, alongside Professor Verrechia, were accordingly inspired to create practical projects using oxalogenous trees to link reforestation and biomimicry, and so our programme was born in 2010 between Paris, Brussels and Lausanne.

Our Financial Donors

Immediately upon launching, Forest Commons gained the confidence of two financial donors, the Jean Hervé Company and the Yves Rocher Foundation. And these relationships continue after 10 years!

Jean Hervé was a pioneer of the organic food movement in the 1970s and his company specialises in the manufacture of organic fruit and nut products.

The Yves Rocher Foundation’s “Plant for the planet” programme has supported our activities in Haiti and Mexico. The Foundation was founded in 2007 by Jacques Rocher and as of 2020 has enabled the planting of over 100 million trees worldwide.

Additionally, we have also received financing from the sustainable development and engineering company Inddigo for the three-year project in India, as well as BioIngredients, a family-run import company of organic foods.

Partners on-the-ground

Without the dedicated efforts, hard work and vision of our partners-on-the-ground, our programme would not exist. They are our anchors and our link with the field. We invite you to visit our Countries of Action pages to learn more about our invaluable implementing partners.

Tribute to Jean hervé

It was with great sadness that we learned of the passing of Jean Hervé on 16 February, 2017. Hervé was the founder of the company of the same name, which has been the primary funder of our Haiti project since its launch in 2011.

It was following a very human encounter, concluded with a handshake, that Jean Hervé committed to supporting our fledgling project in Haiti.

Such an attitude is representative of this man, whose values put respect for humans and nature at the heart of all his projects, both personal and professional.

His commitment to these values pervades the entire operation of his business, now taken over by his children, which prioritises traditional and ecological production, reforestation, education, local economy participation and fierce defence of organic farming

Jean Hervé was a rare individual who assuredly and passionately put his thoughts into action, and we know his children continue his legacy in the same spirit.

Without the Jean Hervé company we certainly would not have been able to plant the 150,000 trees we achieved in Haiti by 2017, nor witnessed the growth of our project there or the significant impact it has had thus far for local communities. … It is therefore with tremendous gratitude that we dedicate this meaningful work to him.
